Macromolecular cell surface engineering for accelerated and reversible cellular aggregation.
We report the synthesis of two simple copolymers that induce rapid cell aggregation within minutes in a fully reversible manner. The polymers can act as self-supporting "cellular glues" or as "drivers" of 3D cell spheroids/aggregates formation at minute concentrations.

Manipulation of cell-cell interactions has potential applications in basic research and cell-based therapy. Herein, using a combination of metabolic glycan labelling and bio-orthogonal click reaction, we engineer cell membranes with β-cyclodextrin and subsequently manipulate cell behaviours via photo-responsive host-guest recognition. With this methodology, we demonstrate reversible manipulatio...

Liver disease is one of the leading causes of death in the world. Each year, approximately 25,000 patients die from endstage liver disease in the United States alone. The orthotopic liver transplan tation is the only known treatment for patients with endstage liver failure but this therapy is limited by the shortage of donor organs. Many alternative treatments, including hepatocyte transplan...

Engineering the electronic structure of organics through interface manipulation, particularly the interface dipole and the barriers to charge carrier injection, is of essential importance to improve organic devices. This requires the meticulous fabrication of desired organic structures by precisely controlling the interactions between molecules. The well-known principles of organic coordination...

Recent progress in the biology of cell adhesion is enabling cell culture models to better reproduce in vivo functions. Cues from adhesion to extracellular matrix and neighboring cells are important regulators of cell behaviors. The recent adaptation of semiconductor tools to spatially organize cells and their adhesions has enhanced our ability to engineer cell functions ex vivo. By using these ...
